An apparently unpublished tetradrachm from Alexandria Troas
Lot 1030
SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos Hierax, circa 242-227 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 16.88 g, 12 h), Alexandria Troas. Head of Antiochos I to right, wearing winged diadem. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOXOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; to outer right, monogram. SC -, cf. 884 (differing monograms and with horse, but struck from the same obverse die as the illustration). Apparently unpublished, and with a beautiful portrait. Good very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

This very interesting piece apparently lacks the usual grazing horse symbol regularly found on issues of Alexandria Troas and imitative series like SC 884. The monogram is also completely new for Alexandria Troas and its imitations.
